RIO DE JANEIRO, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Gustavo Scarpa struck a superb second-half goal as Palmeiras moved four points clear at the top of Brazil's Serie A standings on Thursday with a 1-0 win at America Mineiro.
Scarpa broke the deadlock in the 65th minute by running around his marker and curling an unstoppable left-footed shot into the far corner.
Palmeiras were untroubled thereafter as they eased to their 10th win of the campaign.
The result leaves Palmeiras with 36 points from 18 matches, four points ahead of second-placed Corinthians. America are 17th with 18 points.
In Thursday's only other Brazilian Serie A fixture, reigning champions Atletico Mineiro drew 1-1 at Cuiaba. ■
