EUGENE, United States, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Alison Dos Santos defeated a strong field including Olympic champion Santos Karsten Warholm to win the men's 400m hurdles title at the World Championships here on Tuesday.

Dos Santos, 22, won the race in a time of 46.29 seconds, a championship record.

Rai Benjamin, who finished second in last year's Tokyo Olympics, took silver in 46.89 seconds. His American compatriot Trevor Bassitt finished a surprising third in 47.39 seconds.

Warholm faded badly and finished seventh.
