JERUSALEM, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Israel announced its fighter jets struck a site in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, saying the assault was "a response" to earlier gunfire from the Palestinian enclave.

The planes hit a Hamas military post in the northern Gaza Strip, an Israeli military spokesperson said in a statement.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The spokesperson said that the strikes were a retaliation for a bullet that was found in the Israeli community of Netiv HaAsara near the security fence between Israel and Gaza. The bullet hit an industrial building without causing injuries, according to the army.

Early on Saturday, the Israeli air force struck a Hamas military site in Gaza after four rockets were launched from the enclave overnight.

The fire exchange occurred hours after U.S. President Joe Biden concluded his visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories.

During his cabinet meeting on Sunday, Israel's interim Prime Minister Yair Lapid warned that his country "will respond quickly, forcefully and without hesitation to every launch (of a rocket) and every incendiary balloon."
