LOS ANGELES, July 17 (Xinhua) -- With an estimated 46 million U.S. dollars, Disney and Marvel Studios' superhero film "Thor: Love and Thunder" topped the North American box office for the second weekend in a row.
After 10 days on the big screen, the film has grossed 233.27 million dollars in North America for a worldwide total of 497.87 million dollars, according to studio figures released by measurement firm Comscore on Sunday.
Directed by New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi, the fourth solo Thor film and the sequel to 2017's "Thor: Ragnarok" stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, a fictional character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, alongside Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale.
Universal Pictures' animated comedy film "Minions: The Rise of Gru" came in second with 26 million dollars on its third weekend, pushing its North American cume to 262.56 million dollars.
Rounding out the top three, Sony's mystery drama film "Where the Crawdads Sing" opened in third with 17 million dollars this weekend. ■
