TEHRAN, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The spokesman of the Iranian Armed Forces said Friday that the United States knows well that it will have to atone for using the words "resorting to force" against the Islamic republic, according to the official news agency IRNA.

Abolfazl Shekarchi made the remarks in reaction to the claim by U.S. President Joe Biden that he would be open to using force against Iran in order to prevent the country from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Asked by Israeli news anchor Yonit Levi on Wednesday whether he would be willing to take a stronger stance to ensure Iran does not get a nuclear weapon, Biden said "as a last resort, yes."

Iran perceives the "use of force" claim as a psychological operation by the United States and Israel and an indication of their delusion, noted Shekarchi.

Biden's use of the words "resorting to force" against the Islamic republic can also be aimed at further plundering regional countries' oil resources to slow U.S. decline, repairing Washington's fake grandeur and saving America's ailing economy through selling more weapons to regional countries, he stressed.

Biden arrived in Israel on Wednesday, starting his first trip to the region during his presidency.

After traveling to the West Bank to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday, he will fly to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in the afternoon for talks with Saudi officials, and participate in a summit with senior officials from regional countries.
