JAKARTA, July 14 (Xinhua) -- China edged Bahrain 80-79 in its second group match at the FIBA Asia Cup men's basketball tournament here on Thursday evening.
Gu Quan, who made five 3-pointers, scored 22 points for China, and Jiang Weize added 20 off the bench. Hu Mingxuan chipped in with nine points, five assists and four rebounds.
For Bahrain, Devon Dwayne Chism was the main force as he scored 23 points, 14 rebounds, and one assist. His teammate Maitham Isa added 16 points, four rebounds and four assists.
China, currently ranked third in Group B, was defeated by South Korea 93-81 in its opening match on Tuesday evening.
The squad led by head coach Du Feng will take on Chinese Taipei on Saturday.
The FIBA Asia Cup is being held at the Istora Senayan sports stadium from July 12 to 24. The tournament was initially planned to take place last year, but was postponed due to the pandemic. ■
