ABUJA, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian police on Thursday said they are combing surrounding bushes in search of a group of gunmen who attacked a village in the country's northeastern state of Bauchi, killing one person and abducting three others.
In a statement, the police in Bauchi said the attack on Wednesday was suspected to have been carried out by kidnappers who invaded the Boto Village in the Tafawa Balewa local government area of the state.
The police immediately swung into action after receiving a distress call, mobilizing personnel who rushed to the village but the gunmen had already left with the victims, said the statement by Ahmed Wakili, a spokesman for the police in that state.
"We have in the past acted swiftly to rescue kidnapped victims and are ready to do the same in this situation," said the police statement while calling on local residents to cooperate with security agencies in the fight against insecurity. ■
