MEXICO CITY, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Paraguayan midfielder Richard Sanchez struck a stunning late goal as Club America clinched their first win of the Liga MX season with a 1-0 home defeat of Deportivo Toluca on Wednesday.
Sanchez broke the deadlock in the 93rd minute by sending a 35-yard shot whistling into the top left corner, leaving goalkeeper Tiago Volpi with no chance.
Toluca were forced to play most of the game with just 10 men after midfielder Claudia Baeza was shown a straight red card for a rash challenge on Diego Valdez just after the half-hour mark.
The hosts subsequently dominated possession and finished the match with 26 shots compared to Toluca's 11 attempts.
The result lifted America to sixth in the 18-team standings with four points from three matches, while Toluca dropped to third, behind Puebla and Pachuca on goal difference. ■
