Dutch international Owen Wijndal has signed a contract with Ajax on a five-year deal.

THE HAGUE, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Ajax announced a deal with AZ on the transfer of Dutch international Owen Wijndal to Amsterdam on Tuesday.

The reigning Dutch champions will pay a fixed transfer fee of 10 million euros (10.03 million U.S. dollars) to AZ. The 22-year-old left-back signed a contract with Ajax for five seasons until mid-2027. The defender was under contract with AZ until mid-2024.

Wijndal was born in the city of Zaandam, near Amsterdam, on November 28, 1999. He joined the AZ youth academy at the age of 10, made his debut in the first team in 2017, and grew out to be the captain of the team. He made his debut for the Netherlands against Mexico in October 2020 and collected a total of 11 caps so far.

With the arrival of Wijndal, Ajax have their second major signing on board. Last week, the Amsterdam-based club already attracted Dutch international Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham Hotspur for 31.25 million euros (31.35 million U.S. dollars). Former Ajax player and current RB Leipzig striker Brian Brobbey is the third major target for Ajax this summer.
