TEHRAN, July 9 (Xinhua) -- An Iranian military commander said on Saturday that the domestically-built Damavand destroyer will soon join the navy's Northern Fleet in a special ceremony, semi-official Fars News Agency reported.
This move will help maintain the country's territorial integrity in the Caspian Sea region and deal a blow to enemies' delusions about Iran's defense capabilities, Iranian Navy Commander Shahram Irani said on the sidelines of the 1401 Sustainable Security, a two-day annual naval exercise in the Caspian Sea which began on Friday.
The Damavand destroyer uses the most up-to-date equipment and has been built entirely by domestic experts, he added.
Irani said Iran has achieved the highest level of naval technology in the Caspian Sea region and is capable of building destroyers in the region. ■
