RIO DE JANEIRO, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Filipe Toledo extended his lead in the World Surf League (WSL) standings on Tuesday by beating compatriot Samuel Pupo in the final of the Rio Pro.

The 27-year-old from Sao Paulo earned a perfect 10 with a stunning 360-degree aerial maneuver en route to a two-wave score of 18.67. Pupo could only manage a combined tally of 10.73 at the Itauna beach break in Saquarema, around 100km east of Rio de Janeiro.

"We showed who rules here," a jubilant Toledo said after securing his second win of the season. "I want to congratulate Samuel and all of the Brazilians who competed here. We've all had a tough time [during the pandemic]. It's great to be here and to win a Brazilian title."

The result extends Toledo's overall lead over Australian Jack Robinson to almost 10,000 points with Brazil's Italo Ferreira third, nearly 6,000 points further back.

Hawaii's Carissa Moore clinched her first victory of the season by beating France's Johanne Defay in the final of the women's event.
