COPENHAGEN, June 28 (Xinhua) -- The Danish Energy Agency (DEA) launched a new national campaign on Tuesday to encourage energy savings all year round. It cited high energy prices, climate concerns and pressure on the European gas market caused by the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict.

"This is a serious situation that we are following closely," DEA Director General Kristoffer Bottzauw said in a statement. "We can all make an effort to save energy, and we put ourselves in a better situation for every kilowatt-hour we save -- both for reasons of economy, climate and security of supply. "

Under the slogan "One thing is certain and it's green," the campaign aims to encourage Danes to save energy by "turning down a little, spending a little less, renovating the home energy systems, and finding alternatives to oil and gas for heating."

The DEA offers simple tips to reduce energy use, such as turning off heating in the summer, taking shorter showers, drying clothes on a clothesline instead of in a dryer, disconnecting home appliances before going on vacation, measuring home electricity consumption or investing in energy-saving renovation.

The DEA expects the campaign to contribute to a more secure and ultimately greener energy supply.

"We see that Danes have realized that simple measures can save a lot of energy without compromising their quality of life," Stine Leth Rasmussen, deputy director of the DEA, was quoted in the statement.
