JERUSALEM, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Israel's police said Wednesday that they arrested a Jewish settler on suspicion of involvement in the stabbing and killing of a Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday.

The police said in a statement that they have launched an investigation into the killing of Ali Hassan Harb, 28, who was stabbed to death near the settlement of Ariel.

At the police's request, an Israeli court has issued a gag order on most of the details of the case.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that Harb sustained a fatal stabbing to his heart during a clash with settlers near the village of Iskaka, where the victim lived.

The Palestinians frequently complain about the violence perpetrated by settlers, mainly the attacks against farmers and the vandalism of property. In most cases, no arrests are made and indictments are rarely being served.

The settlements are located in the West Bank, a territory captured by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war.

Some 450,000 Jewish settlers live under heavily guarded settlements in West Bank among some 2.7 million Palestinians, according to Peace Now, an Israeli settlement-watchdog group.
