TEHRAN, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Iranian security forces have arrested elements of Israeli intelligence agency Mossad who were plotting to assassinate the country's nuclear scientists, official news agency IRNA reported Tuesday, quoting a local prosecutor general.
"The assassination of nuclear scientists has been on the agenda of some of these people," Mehdi Shamsabadi, prosecutor general of the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, was quoted by IRNA as saying.
He did not elaborate on the time, number and identity of the detainees.
The investigation is in the preliminary stage but an indictment will be issued and sent to court soon, according to Shamsabadi.
In April, Iran announced the arrest of three Mossad spies who were reportedly involved in the dissemination of classified information and documents. ■
