SAO PAULO, June 21 (Xinhua) -- The media are crucial and fundamental for a better understanding among the populations of the BRICS countries, a Brazilian media veteran told Xinhua recently.
Janaina Camara Da Silveira, who established RadarCHINA -- a news platform to discuss China and China-Brazil relations more than a decade ago, has been following progress of BRICS cooperation for long.
She noted that BRICS members, though having their own distinctions, are all developing countries and share similar concerns and challenges.
Silveira spoke highly of such cooperation fruits as the BRICS Vaccine Research and Development (R&D) Center, the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center in the Chinese city of Xiamen, as well as the establishment of the New Development Bank.
Amid the pandemic and global changes, Silveira said she believes that the key roles played by BRICS countries as both crucial producers and consumers would contribute significantly to global economic recovery.
She hailed China as a major manufacturer of all kinds of products, and highlighted India for being an important producer of pharmaceutical products.
"Just by exporting their knowledge and know-how, China can actually help the other BRICS countries," she commented on China's mature e-commerce market.
"What the BRICS countries should do is to promote people-to-people exchanges," she said, adding that the BRICS Film Festival is her favorite among all cultural exchange activities.
"It's just amazing the way that the directors from the BRICS countries showed in short movies to make people know each other," she recalled.
Silveira said she believes BRICS will gain more and more importance in the following year. ■
