Hong Kong beat hosts Uganda in ICC Challenge League B tournament

KAMPALA, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Hosts Uganda on Monday suffered a second straight defeat at the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) Challenge League B tournament.

Uganda Cricket Cranes lost to Hong Kong, China by six wickets in a match played in the capital Kampala. A few days ago, Uganda lost its opening match to Jersey.

Uganda elected to bat first and put on a miserable 94/10 in only 33.2 runs. Hong Kong made the win easy by wrapping it up 96/4 to win by 6 wickets.

Ronak Patel was most outstanding for Uganda on the bat with 35 runs, while skipper Brian Masaba picked 19 runs. The trio of Simon Ssesazi, Dinesh Kumar Nakrani and Riazat Ali Shah all failed to pick any runs for Uganda.

Hong Kong who have now picked two straight wins in the tournament had four players register double figures. Nizakat Khan and Adit Gorawara picked 24 and 22 runs respectively. Kinchit D. Shah added another 15 runs, while Babar Hayat had 13 runs.

"We are very happy that we managed to keep our composure and played well to beat Uganda. We still have more games to come and we should stay focused," Hong Kong's Yasim Murtaza, who was voted Player of the Match, told Xinhua after the match.

Lawrence Mahatlane, the Uganda Cricket Cranes head coach said it was a bad performance by his team. "It hurts the way we lost against Hong Kong and we need to get back and try to win the remaining matches," said Mahatlane.

In the second match played on Monday, Jersey beat Kenya by 96 runs.

Action will return on Tuesday when Uganda faces Bermuda, while Jersey takes on Italy.

The ICC Challenge League B is also a qualification pathway for associates to next year's 50 over World Cup.

The Challenge League B is played over three rounds with the top side after the three rounds moving on to the final round of qualifiers, which will be hosted by Jersey from July 28 to August 10 later this year.
