TERENGGANU, Malaysia, June 17 (Xinhua) -- World Sea Turtle Day is celebrated every year on June 16 to raise awareness about the plight of sea turtles. In Malaysia, the Chagar Hutang Turtle Sanctuary is one of the main nesting sites for green and hawksbill turtles.

The annual nesting period for green sea turtles usually falls around March to October, with a peak in May to July. In 2005, the Terengganu State government declared Chagar Hutang beach as a sea turtle sanctuary. Many green sea turtles are seen laying eggs and nesting on the shore.
