PHNOM PENH, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Sok Cheav, a 68-year-old Cambodian woman, suffered a stroke several years ago and was since left paralyzed. But with the help of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), she said she has partially regained mobility.

Cheav, who rode in a wheelchair assisted by her son, said she had sought TCM after hearing that a team of TCM experts had arrived in Cambodia and offered TCM treatments to patients at the Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital here.

"Previously, I could not move my body, and collapsed when I sat unassisted," the mother of four told Xinhua on Wednesday while revisiting the TCM experts for follow-up medical care.

"Now, I can sit independently, and my right hand is movable, but my left hand is still unmovable," she said. "Using TCM has also given me a good sleep."

Cheav's son, Teng Vichai, 31, said the China-aided medical project is very useful for Cambodian patients, and it truly shows China's particular attention to helping improve the wellbeing of Cambodian people.

"TCM experts are very professional and they pay attention to diagnosing diseases before providing treatment," he told Xinhua. "Traditional Chinese medicines are very effective because my mother feels better after using them."

Vichai said he was very grateful to China for having dispatched its TCM experts to help treat the Cambodian people.

Xu Feng, head of the TCM anti-COVID-19 pandemic team in Cambodia, said the team of 10 members will perform its medical tasks in the country for one year, starting from May.

He said 50 to 60 patients are treated daily at the TCM clinic of the Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital.

"The TCM clinic provides free treatment services to all patients," he told Xinhua.

"We will promote the health of the Cambodian people through practical and effective clinical technology of traditional Chinese medicine, and hope to introduce the excellent culture and clinical technology of traditional Chinese medicine to the Cambodian people," he said.

Xu said the team has promoted the diagnosis and treatment model of integrated Chinese and Western medicine.

"We use TCM four diagnostic methods to improve the curative effect of diseases and improve the life quality of patients with chronic diseases," he said. "On this basis, we will provide Chinese herbal medicine, and non-drug therapy, including acupuncture, massage, cupping, etc., according to the patient's diagnosis results."

He said his team is very happy to see patients recovering from illness after using TCM.

"We hope through the implementation of this project, Cambodia can defeat the COVID-19 pandemic and establish a sound infectious disease prevention and control system," Xu said.
