WINDHOEK, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Eleven black rhinos had been poached in Namibia's flagship Etosha National Park in June, Namibia's Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism spokesperson Romeo Muyunda said on Tuesday.
Investigations indicate the carcasses with horns range between three weeks and older, Muyunda said in a statement.
"This is regrettable and a strong indication that the fight against poaching is not over," he said, adding that the ministry and law enforcement will intensify wildlife protection and law enforcement interventions including patrols, security and intelligence gathering.
According to Muyunda, no arrests have been made yet on the recent carcasses discovery as investigations continue.
To date, a total of 22 rhinos have been poached this year, he added.
Namibia is home to almost half of the world's population of black rhinos, most of these are found in Etosha National Park. It also has the world's largest population of black rhino that has survived on communal land. ■
