HERAT, Afghanistan, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered 10 kg opium poppy and arrested four persons on the charge of smugglers in Afghanistan's western Herat province, provincial police spokesman Mahmoud Shah Rasouli said Monday.
According to the official, police discovered 10 kg of opium poppy from Kushk-e-Kohna district on Sunday and four persons have been taken into custody on the charge of smuggling the contraband.
The Taliban-run administration in a decree issued in April formally banned poppy cultivation, producing the illicit drug and its trafficking in the war-torn country.
Police also destroyed poppy fields in Herat's neighboring Farah province a couple of weeks ago. ■
