SOFIA, June 9 (Xinhua) -- A small plane from Hungary illegally landed in Bulgaria on Wednesday night, the Bulgarian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
Bulgaria's air force was immediately activated as the plane entered the country's airspace at 7:09 p.m. Wednesday local time (1609 GMT) in complex hydro-meteorological conditions, the statement said.
Without an approved flight plan, the plane took off from Hungary and flew through Serbia and Romania, it said.
In Hungarian and Romanian airspace, the plane was escorted by Hungarian fighters, and Romanian and American F-16 fighters respectively, it said.
The case is under investigation, it added. ■
