QUITO, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela international goalkeeper Wuilker Farinez faces an extended period on the sidelines with a serious knee injury, the South American country's football federation said on Monday.
The 24-year-old suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament while training with the Vinotinto squad in the Spanish city of Cartagena.
"Wuilker was immediately transferred to a clinic where all the pertinent studies were carried out to confirm the distressing injury," the Venezuelan football federation said in a statement.
Venezuela are preparing for a friendly against Saudi Arabia in the southeastern Spanish city of Murcia on Tuesday.
Wuilker, who plays his club football for French side Lens, is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days and will miss at least six months, according to documents. ■
