RIYADH, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Cloud Computing Company (SCCC), a new joint venture company formed by Chinese and Saudi companies, has launched its service in Saudi Arabia to meet the growing demand for cloud services in the kingdom.

Formed by Chinese company Alibaba Cloud, Saudi Telecom Company (STC) Group, eWTP Arabia Capital, the Saudi Company for Artificial Intelligence (SCAI), and the Saudi Information Technology Company (SITE), the SCCC announced the opening of two data centers during the launching ceremony in Riyadh on Sunday.

The data centers will offer customers in Saudi Arabia a wide range of public cloud computing solutions ranging from elastic computing, storage, and network to databases to cater to the surging business demand from industries such as retail, fintech, and the internet, among others, it said.

"Saudi Arabia is making great strides towards delivering a scalable and secure IT infrastructure to keep up with the demand for a robust and secure cloud service in the digital era. We are extremely pleased to collaborate with Alibaba Cloud which will leverage their technology expertise and industry know-how for our customers in the Kingdom looking to embrace digital innovation," said STC Group CEO Olayan Mohammed Alwetaid.

Alibaba Group Vice President, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence International President Selina Yuan said that "Saudi Arabia is a very strategic and important market for Alibaba Cloud. This launch of the new joint venture is a significant milestone toward our commitment to forging collaborations with local partners to boost the digital transformation in the kingdom."

"By collaborating closely with STC Group and other local partners, we are pleased and confident that Alibaba Cloud will support more local enterprises benefiting from the leading cloud computing technologies," she said.

Saudi Arabia has been working to become a regional leader in cloud technology. Earlier this year, the kingdom's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announced plans to invest billions of U.S. dollars in future technologies.
