BEIJING, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines over the past week:

1. China's teenager Zheng reaches last 16 at French Open

China's Zheng Qinwen was never really tested en route to her third round victory at the French Open as the 19-year-old swept past Alize Cornet of France to reach the last 16.

In that round, Zheng was stopped by Poland's world No.1 Iga Swiatek, but this is the first time the Chinese teenager has reached such a stage in a Grand Slam.


2. Han Xu sets new season-high in WNBA

Han Xu scored a season-high 13 points in the New York Liberty's 92-61 WNBA defeat to the Seattle Storm, including seven of her team's 15 points in the first quarter.

Also in this week, Han's Chinese national teammate Li Yueru made her maiden appearance in the WNBA with the Chicago Sky.


3. China's volleyball team captain Jiang has eyes on Paris 2024

After a 50-day closed training camp in Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, China's men's volleyball team embarked on their 2022 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) journey.

Captain Jiang Chuan has set a clear goal to win as many matches as possible in the VNL and lead the team to the 2024 Olympics in Paris.


4. China beat the Netherlands in women's VNL first round

China's women's volleyball team came back from one set down to beat the Netherlands 3-1 in the Volleyball Nations League, the first international competition for China since last summer's Tokyo Olympics.


5. Chinese race walker Qieyang celebrates third title in five weeks

World silver medalist Qieyang Shijie of China celebrated her third title in five weeks with a convincing 20km victory at the 35th Gran Premio Cantones de La Coruna, a World Athletics Race Walking Tour Gold event, held in northwest Spain on Saturday.

With her victory in La Coruna, Qieyang maintains her perfect start to the current season.


6. Amateur cyclists take epic ride to Tibet

Several Chinese amateur cyclists completed an epic ride of more than 2,000km across 14 high altitude mountains along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway.

Hou Weiyu, 52, took only five days 17 hours and 26 minutes to finish the extreme ride.
