BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

HUMAN IMPACT ON EXTREME PRECIPITATION

Human activities may increase extreme precipitation events, according to a study recently published in the journal npj Climate and Atmospheric Science.

The study evaluates the impact of human activities on the change of extreme precipitation events, which is helpful for precipitation events analysis and water disaster management.

COVID-19 VACCINE

A China-developed intranasal vaccine against COVID-19 has shown to be safe and effective in early-stage human trials, according to a new study published in the journal The Lancet Respiratory Medicine.

Compared with currently available COVID-19 vaccines that are administered by intramuscular injection, the new drug, coded dNS1-RBD, is a two-dose, live-attenuated influenza vaccine given through the nose. It was jointly developed by Xiamen University, the University of Hong Kong and Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy Enterprise.

METEOROLOGICAL SATELLITES

Two meteorological satellites, along with their ground application systems, began trial operation on Monday, said the China Meteorological Administration.

The two satellites, Fengyun-3E and Fengyun-4B, will provide observation data and application services to global users.
