MACAO, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Macao's external merchandise trade totaled 56.71 billion patacas (about 7.02 billion U.S. dollars) from January to April 2022, up 19.1 percent from a year earlier, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistical service said Monday.
The latest report from Macao's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed the total value of merchandise export in the first four months of this year increased by 12.4 percent year on year to 5.07 billion patacas while total merchandise import grew by 19.8 percent to 51.64 billion patacas.
In the first four months, the value of re-exports and domestic exports went up by 10.3 percent to 4.34 billion patacas and 27.1 percent to 735 million patacas respectively. Merchandise trade deficit totaled 46.57 billion patacas, up 7.99 billion patacas from a year earlier, showed the report.
Analyzed by destination, merchandise export to the mainland fell by 23.5 percent year on year to 443 million patacas in the first four months. Exports to China's Hong Kong SAR, the United States and the European Union (EU) registered respective year-on-year growth of 19.2 percent, 17.4 percent and 29.6 percent.
Analyzed by place of origin, merchandise import from the EU and the mainland in the first four months of 2022 rose by 31.5 percent to 18.52 billion patacas and 6.8 percent to 14.96 billion patacas, respectively.
In April alone, total merchandise export amounted to 1.19 billion patacas, up 13.0 percent year on year, while total merchandise import went down by 3.1 percent year on year to 13.18 billion patacas.
