The New York Liberty credits Han Xu as the Player of the Game on its official twitter account.
Han Xu of China scored a season-high 13 points in the New York Liberty's 92-61 WNBA defeat to the Seattle Storm, including 7 of her team's 15 points in the first quarter.
WASHINGTON, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Despite Chinese center Han Xu scoring a season-high 13 points, the New York Liberty couldn't avoid a seventh straight loss in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) on Sunday, going down 92-61 to the Seattle Storm.
Han continued her good performance from the previous game, notching eight rebounds on 5-of-13 shooting in 25 minutes, and scoring seven of the Liberty's 15 points in the first quarter.
The center told Xinhua afterwards that she tried to find more opportunities near the rim. "As a center, I need to attack the rim in the paint more, rather than only relying on shooting."
Although Han is gradually developing chemistry with the Liberty, the team once again failed to win. "We have a low morale now, and we need to find a solution to end this," Han said. "I believe that we can turn things around through training after going back to New York."
Despite only playing five games for the Liberty this season, China's national team's key player was no stranger to the team. Drafted by New York with the overall 14th pick in 2019, Han averaged three points and 0.7 rebounds in 15 games in her first season.
Rejoining the team, Han said that she need to take on more responsibilities. "I cherished this opportunity a lot, and I started training on the next day after arriving in New York," she said. "I want to contribute more to both offense and defense as a key player, and motivate my teammates on and off the court." ■
