"China has done an immensely wonderful work with its dynamic zero-COVID strategy," an Ethiopian expert said, adding that those measures "have come up with good results in terms of human life and transmissions among the general population."

ADDIS ABABA, May 30 (Xinhua) -- China's successful dynamic zero-COVID approach is working "immensely wonderful" in protecting people's lives while minimizing the socioeconomic impacts of the pandemic, an Ethiopian expert has said.

"Look at the epidemiological figures globally and the fact that the Chinese deaths and transmission have become very low is a testimony to the dynamic zero COVID-19 policy," Costantinos Bt. Costantinos, professor of public policy at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, told Xinhua in a recent interview.

In the expert's opinion, China has been "very effective" in executing its flexible COVID-19 control strategies.

"China has done an immensely wonderful work with its dynamic zero-COVID strategy," Costantinos said, adding that those measures "have come up with good results in terms of human life and transmissions among the general population."

"The Chinese psyche, the Chinese understanding, the kind of critical thinking they have put into their own population, it is a very important base in fighting the pandemic," said the expert.

He argued that with a successful track record in implementing its dynamic zero-COVID approach thus far, China will further continue its success in fighting the pandemic.

"There has been success so far; and I believe they will do much better because like the way I see in the Chinese development, they have been doing better every year," he added.

Costantinos, also serving as an economic advisor to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), commended China's "great contribution" and "decisive role" in helping the world battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

"China had developed all this PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and other materials before most developed nations could even produce it. It started exporting this personal protection equipment to different countries, especially for developing countries in Latin America, Africa, and South Asia," he said.

Noting that China has made its COVID-19 vaccines a global public good, Costantinos said vaccines, experts and medical supplies from China are necessary for others, particularly developing countries, to fight the pandemic effectively.

"China was one of the first countries to be able to distribute these vaccines to developing nations in Africa, Latin America, Asia. So definitely, there was a tremendous amount of support," he said.
