RIO DE JANEIRO, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva could return to his former club Gremio after parting ways with Lazio, according to Brazilian media reports.
The Porto Alegre outfit has held initial talks with the 35-year-old with a view to signing him for the second half of Brazil's domestic season, according to local news outlet Globo Esporte.
It added that the club's financial constraints could provide an obstacle in the negotiations.
Lucas, who earned the last of his 24 Brazil caps in 2013, left Lazio last weekend after 198 appearances over five seasons for the Italian Serie A club.
He started his professional career with Gremio in 2005 before earning a five million-pound move to Liverpool two years later. ■
