GOMA, DR Congo, May 28 (Xinhua) -- A year after the eruption of volcano Nyiragongo in the northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, victims of the eruption are still working hard to rebuild hope and get back on their feet. In a shelter, asylum seekers fend for themselves with limited resources, hoping to return home soon.

In May 2021, the city of Goma at the foot of the volcano was nearly disfigured by the volcanic eruption that killed more than 30 people. Thousands of people were left displaced and are still living in temporary shelters.

As the volcano is agitated every now and then, people still fear another eruption. Local volcanic scientists are working day and night and calling for local residents to stay calm and vigilant.
