LA PAZ, May 26 (Xinhua) -- The 6.9-magnitude earthquake recorded Thursday in southern Peru was also felt in several regions of Bolivia, including the major cities of La Paz and Cochabamba.
Gonzalo Fernandez, director of the San Calixto Observatory, told Xinhua that due to the quake's depth of 240 km, there was little probability of serious damage, and so far no material or personal damage had been reported in Bolivia.
However, the specialist warned that aftershocks were still possible, and recommended people to stay alert.
On television and social media there were images of people evacuating large buildings in La Paz.
"We were going to class on the 12th floor and felt the tremor. Then they told us we had to evacuate the building," Jaime, a university student in the Miraflores area of La Paz, told a television station.
There were also reports of tremors in El Alto, Cochabamba, Oruro and Sucre. ■
