LJUBLJANA, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Three Slovenian center-left parties signed a coalition agreement, paving the way for a leftward policy shift, on Tuesday.

The move comes a day before parliament is due to confirm leader of the Freedom Movement (FM) Robert Golob as the country's new prime minister, following the April 24 general election.

The agreement was signed by the FM, which holds 41 out of 90 parliamentary seats, as well as the Social Democrats which holds seven seats and the Left, five seats.

Under the agreement, the new government will strengthen the public health system, and increase taxes on income, real estate and pollution. It will also build a large number of public apartments that will be rented out to those with low incomes. Furthermore, the government will introduce a pension reform, increase media freedoms, and promote a digital and green economy.

Golob told reporters after signing the coalition agreement that his government wants to ease the burden of rising energy and food costs on citizens, but did not give more details on how this will be achieved.

The parliament is expected to confirm Golob's cabinet by June 3, ousting the center-right government of Prime Minister Janez Jansa.
