NANJING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- A multistory parking lot that can generate electricity while reducing carbon dioxide emissions was on Monday put into operation in the city of Wuxi, east China's Jiangsu Province.
With investment from Japanese firm Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., the parking lot covers a floor area of more than 20,000 square meters and is equipped with more than 1,500 solar panels. The electricity it can generate in one year is equivalent to the annual power consumption of 300 households.
The environmentally friendly parking lot is the first of its kind that the Japanese firm has built. It can accommodate 500 cars and 1,500 electric bicycles simultaneously.
It can help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 490 tonnes every year, according to Wuxi Murata Electronics Co., the company's largest production base in China. ■
