BUENOS AIRES, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Argentina registered 43,487 COVID-19 cases this week, a 27.9-percent increase compared to the previous week, bringing the total number of infections to 9,178,795, the Ministry of Health said Sunday.
The ministry said in its weekly report that another 49 deaths have been registered, taking the national death toll to 128,825. Meanwhile, 323 people are currently hospitalized in intensive care units, which have an occupancy rate of 42 percent.
As of Sunday, the country has distributed 108,651,950 vaccine doses and administered 101,147,280 doses.
A total of 40,762,398 people have received at least one vaccine dose while 37,405,047 have been fully vaccinated. In addition, 19,953,595 people have received a booster dose and 3,026,240 have received an additional booster, according to the Public Vaccination Monitor.
Argentine Health Minister Carla Vizzotti said earlier this week that the country had entered a fourth wave of the disease, but added that Argentina is in a "totally different" situation than when the pandemic began. ■
