XINING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Staff of Sanjiangyuan National Park in northwest China's Qinghai Province have captured footage of Tibetan antelopes crossing Qinghai-Tibet highway during their migration.
Every year, tens of thousands of pregnant Tibetan antelopes start their migration to the heart of Hoh Xil National Nature Reserve in May to give birth after mating in November or December, and leave with their offspring in around August.
By May 21, around 1,480 Tibetan antelopes had started this year's migration.
Thanks to the anti-poaching campaign and the ban on illegal hunting, Hoh Xil is now home to more than 70,000 Tibetan antelopes.
The population of Tibetan antelopes has surged to around 300,000 from a low of 70,000 in the last century. In August 2021, the status of Tibetan antelopes in China has been downgraded from "endangered" to "near threatened."
