MEXICO CITY, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Atlas secured a berth in the Liga MX Clausura final on Saturday despite suffering a 4-2 away loss to Tigres UANL in the second leg of their semifinal.
French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac scored a second-half hat-trick while Igor Lichnovsky was also on target for the hosts with an 81st-minute strike.
But Tigres' second-half blitz was not enough to avoid elimination as goals from Julian Quinones and Aldo Rocha gave Atlas a 5-4 win on aggregate following their 3-0 victory in the first leg.
Atlas are vying for their second successive Liga MX title, having won the 2021 Clausura tournament - their first league triumph in 70 years.
Pachuca will host Club America in the second leg of the other semifinal on Sunday. The teams drew 1-1 in the first leg last Thursday. ■
