MADRID, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Francisco Rodriguez will continue as first-team coach of La Liga outfit Elche for the 2022-2023 season, the club owner Christian Bragnarik confirmed on Thursday.
The new contract is a reward for the work the former Huesca, Girona and Almeria coach has done since arriving at the end of November with the club deep in relegation trouble.
Rodriguez's 26 games in charge have seen Elche take 36 points - enough to have secured their top-flight survival with relative ease and they go into the last game of the season in 15th place with 39 points, despite losing their last three matches.
Bragnarik announced the decision in a press conference in which he gave an overview of the season.
"You try and draw a general conclusion, but the fans and I are more than happy, not just with his technical ability, but also with his willingness to work and the way he expresses himself. He will carry on for another year and that will show us the way ahead," said the club owner. ■
