MADRID, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Spain's La Liga side Rayo Vallecano on Thursday announced that Andoni Iraola will continue as head coach until June 2023.
The contract extension is reward for Iraola's excellent work at the Madrid-based club which was promoted back to La Liga last season and avoid relegation this season. Iraola also took Rayo to the semifinals of the Copa del Rey.
Rayo had an excellent first half to the season and were in the European positions for several weeks, although their league form suffered as the cup run took its toll on a small squad. Their form picked up in the past two months, which also saw them win 1-0 away to FC Barcelona in the Camp Nou Stadium. ■
