BEIJING, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Experts from home and abroad have shared their views on China's human rights development and how to promote exchanges on human rights to uphold the common values of humanity.
Within a few decades, China has lifted nearly 800 million people out of poverty, resolved the issue of absolute poverty, and built a moderately prosperous society in all respects, said Lu Guangjin, secretary-general of the China Society for Human Rights Studies.
"All basic rights of the Chinese people are better respected and protected. China has created a new miracle in the history of human rights protection," Lu said at a seminar on China's human rights development.
The seminar, "W.E. Talk Think Tank -- China's Road of Human Rights Development," was held by the China News Service on Thursday and attended by domestic and foreign scholars.
China's achievements in human rights development show China's path in this regard is scientific and rational, Lu said.
Wang Wen, executive dean of the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at the Renmin University of China, said that China's human rights progress has expanded the world's established path to human rights development and is a new reference for the facilitation of human rights development in developing countries.
Zulhayat Ismayil, vice president of Xinjiang University, condemned slander related to the so-called forced labor in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
"As an education worker in Xinjiang, I've seen with my own eyes how the people here have readily worked their way into better lives, and that gives me the qualification to speak about the facts and truth about people's decent work in Xinjiang," she said.
John Ross, a British academic and senior fellow at the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, said that the more the world's people understand China's extraordinary achievements, the more they will want the same scale of improvement in the human rights conditions of their own peoples, and therefore the more favorable they will be to China.
China has produced the greatest improvement in the conditions of life of the greatest number of people in human history, he said.
China has a system of human rights that is determined by real results, by improvement in the real lives of people, not by purely formal, artificial and therefore misleading and false criteria, Ross added.
When it comes to groundless accusations against China's Xinjiang region, Michael Borchmann, a German expert on China, said that some obedient executors of the disgusting game with origins in the West even use the word "genocide."
"This word is for me a symbol for that, what the USA did with their native people after their foundation," said Borchmann, citing a traditional German saying: People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
"To facilitate exchanges on human rights between China and the West, we need Western countries to discard their ideological biases, and the world should promote fair, just and inclusive human rights governance," said Zhang Yonghe, a professor at the Southwest University of Political Science and Law. ■
