BEIJING, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Xue Heng, a former senior political advisor of northeast China's Liaoning Province, has been indicted on charges of taking bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said on Monday.

Xue was the former vice-chairman of the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Xue has been accused of taking advantage of his various positions, including deputy governor of Liaoning, to seek benefits for relevant units and individuals in business operation, securing project contracts, case handling, job promotion and adjustment, and accepting a huge amount of money and valuables in exchange.

The indictment also said that Xue was found to have used his influence after leaving his posts to provide assistance to relevant personnel in changing criminal compulsory measures and accepted a large amount of money and gifts in return.

The prosecution was brought by the procuratorate of the city of Bayan Nur, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, upon the designation of the SPP.

The prosecutors had informed the defendant of his litigation rights, interrogated him, and listened to the defense counsel's opinions.
