Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian-American journalist who was killed when covering clashes in Jenin in the occupied West Bank, was buried on Friday in Jerusalem.
Thousands of Palestinians attended the burial, which started with a church service in east Jerusalem in the morning. Last respects were paid in the Old City, said her employer Al Jazeera TV, where she was laid to rest in a nearby cemetery.
The UN Security Council on Friday strongly condemned the killing of the 51-year-old reporter and the injury of another journalist in the same incident. The council members reiterated that journalists should be protected as civilians, stressing that they continued to monitor the situation closely.
