VALLETTA, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The presidents of Malta and Ireland pledged continued cooperation for peace and stability during their meeting here on Thursday.

Talking to journalists, Ireland's President Michael D. Higgins, who's on a three-day state visit here, and his Maltese counterpart, George Vella highlighted their policy of "positive" neutrality.

Vella said that they also addressed the unfolding serious humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

Higgins, in turn, said that Ireland supported Malta in its efforts to manage irregular migration. He also thanked Vella for Malta's help to Dublin in dealing with the spillover effects caused by Brexit.

The two heads of state discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations, which they described as excellent, and exchanged views on matters that affect the European Union.
