RIO DE JANEIRO, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Veteran Flamengo defender Filipe Luis will spend at least a month on the sidelines due to a calf injury, the Brazilian Serie A club said on Tuesday.
The left-back limped off the pitch during the first half of Flamengo's 1-0 defeat to Botafogo in the Serie A championship on Sunday. Scans showed the 36-year-old former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea player has a grade two muscle tear, Flamengo said in a brief statement on social media.
Luis joins a Rubro-Negro injury list that also includes goalkeeper Santos (hamstring), center-back Fabricio Bruno (foot) and forward Matheus Franca (broken leg).
Flamengo, the 2019 and 2020 Serie A champions, are currently 14th in the 20-team Serie A standings with just five points from as many matches.
The club's next fixture will be a home duel against Altos on Wednesday in the third round of the Copa do Brasil. ■
