URUMQI, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of bulldozers are flattening the towering sand dunes into a roadbed in the Taklimakan Desert in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The construction work of the highway, which extends 151 km, began on Feb. 26 this year.
It is expected to open to traffic in October 2023.
So far, several roads have opened to traffic in deserts in Xinjiang, facilitating travel and boosting local economic development.
