BAGHDAD, May 4 (Xinhua) -- The Iraqi military announced on Wednesday that a Katyusha missile landed on a house in central Baghdad, causing property damage.
The rocket was fired from eastern Baghdad and targeted civilian houses, according to a statement by the media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command.
The Iraqi authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to identify the attackers, the statement said.
Some of the neighborhoods in eastern Baghdad are known to have become home to Shiite militias' strongholds.
A police source told Xinhua that the rocket was apparently targeting the heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses some of the main Iraqi government offices and the U.S. embassy, but landed in a residential building in the Karrada neighborhood by accident.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, although uncontrolled militias frequently target Iraqi military bases housing U.S. military advisors across the country, and the U.S. embassy in Baghdad has been frequently targeted by mortar and rocket attacks. ■
