LHASA, May 2 (Xinhua) -- The gross domestic product (GDP) of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region grew 6.4 percent year on year in the first quarter of 2022 when calculated at comparable prices, the regional government announced at a press conference Sunday.
Tibet's GDP stood at 51.7 billion yuan (about 7.8 billion U.S. dollars) from January to March.
During this period, the added value of designated large enterprises in Tibet increased 17.6 percent year on year, 11.1 percentage points higher than the national average and ranking first nationwide.
Cai Min, deputy head of the regional statistics bureau, said that due to the rising international ore prices, the added value of Tibet's mining industry in the first quarter rose 24.2 percent from the same period of 2021.
In Q1, Tibet's market entities increased, and the employment situation improved steadily.
At the end of March, there were 414,900 registered market entities in Tibet, a year-on-year increase of 11.2 percent. ■
