China bags 3 golds at Badminton Asia Championships

China showed its dominant power in the Badminton Asia Championships 2022 in Manila with three gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

MANILA, May 1 (Xinhua) -- China asserted its dominance in the Badminton Asia Championships 2022 here on Sunday, winning three gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

World No. 1 and reigning world champions Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan dominated the women's doubles, beating Japan's Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi 21-11, 21-15 in the final.

In an all-Chinese mixed doubles final, world No. 2 and two-time world champions Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong showed their superiority over compatriots Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping with a 21-17, 21-8 win.

Rounding off China's gold run was world number 16 Wang Zhiyi, who fashioned a come-from-behind 15-21, 21-13, 21-19 win over world No. 2 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the women's singles final.

China's two bronzes came from Weng Hongyang in the men's singles and Du Yue and Li Wenmei in the women's doubles.

Malaysia's world No. 7 Lee Zii Jia claimed his first-ever Asian title, fending off Indonesia's Jonatan Christie 21-17, 23-21 in the men's singles final.

Indonesian pair Pramudya Kusumawardana Riyanto and Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob stunned world No. 9 Soh Wooi Yik and Aaron Chia of Malaysia 23-21, 21-10 in the men's doubles final.
