MOGADISHU, April 29 (Xinhua) -- A senior al-Shabab terrorist behind a series of terror attacks in Southwest State of Somalia has surrendered to government security forces, the military said on Friday.
The Somalia National Army (SNA) officials told Radio Mogadishu that Omar Derow surrendered to the security forces in Baidoa town on Thursday evening.
The radio reported that Derow who has been a fighter of the terror group for eight years and took part many terrorist acts in the region surrendered with a cache of weapons which he has been using to stage attacks.
"Derow, one of al-Shabab's terrorist group's foreman has surrendered to security forces in Baidoa town of Somalia's Southywest State," the state-owned raido reported.
The security forces displaced the photos of the terrorist who said has abandoned the militant group's ideology of causing horrific acts of atrocities against the Somali people.
Several al-Shabab leaders have surrendered to government forces in the recent past amid intensified security operations across the country. ■
