NAIROBI, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Kenya women's rugby sevens team, Lionesses, will be aiming at securing the only African ticket to play at the Rugby World Cup 7s set for September in South Africa this weekend.

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) said in a statement issued in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, Thursday that the team has been drawn in Pool B for the Africa Women's 7s tournament in Jemmal, Tunisia alongside next-door neighbors Uganda and Zambia.

KRU said the tournament serves as the African qualifying event for the Rugby World Cup as well as the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Britain.

Last week, their male counterparts Shujaa qualified for the same tournament after finishing third at the qualifiers in Uganda.

Pool A features South Africa, Zimbabwe and Senegal while Pool C is made up of Tunisia, Ghana and Madagascar according to the draw released by World Rugby.

South Africa have automatically qualified as hosts of the Rugby World Cup 7s but will still battle it out alongside Kenya and other teams for Commonwealth Games qualification.
