BAMAKO, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Five Malian soldiers died in an explosion of a homemade bomb in the center of the country, the army said Monday evening.
According to a statement of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the Armed Forces (Dirpa), the tragedy occurred Monday morning, when a security patrol of the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) were chasing a tanker truck kidnapped on the Bandiagara-Bankass axis. Their vehicle jumped on the homemade bomb, causing "5 dead and 1 injured".
Mali has been facing security, political and economic crises since 2012, with insurgencies, jihadist incursions and inter-community violence killing thousands and displacing hundreds of thousands of others in the west African country. ■
